Classroom Procedures

Warm-Up/Pre-Flight: Students enter the classroom and follow the “Pre-flight” section on the assignment board on the back wall. They have 10 minutes (music playing) to write the “Mission” in their agenda notebooks, complete the warm-up assignment, and take a quick restroom break. Students are not allowed to ask questions during the 10-minute warm-up. The reasoning for this is for students to work on time management. Students must be back to their seats and ready to begin class by the time the music stops or they will be written up.
ZAP (Zeros Aren’t Permitted): Students who turn in work that earns them a score of zero will receive a ZAP to take home for a parent signature. The ZAP will be filled out by the student and signed by the teacher on the day it was received. The teacher will also place a due date on the bottom of the ZAP for when the completed/corrected assignment (along with the signed ZAP) should be returned. I feel as though each student is responsible for completing the required assignments even if it is for a lower grade. I give assignments to help the students build on their skills, and an assignment missed is practice not gained. Each ZAP requires a parent signature and a teacher signature. This is to ensure that you, as a parent, know that I have issued the ZAP, and it is to ensure that I, as his teacher, know that you (the parent) is aware of the missing assignment.
